Tom Zbikowski delivers different type of hits

Above is Zbikowski's first professional fight in June 2006

Upon the official announcement of an NFL lockout, several players, like Tom Zbikowski, have wasted no time picking up other hobbies or occupations while all the league-wide calamity gets sorted out.

Last night in Las Vegas, Baltimore Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski fought and defeated Richard Bryant in his second professional boxing match. In only 1:27, Zbikowski knocked Bryant down and out with a powerful blow to the midsection. His pro record improves to 2-0.

Boxing didn't come to Zbikowski instantaneously, he has had years of practice. His first pro fight took place almost five years ago in Madison Square Garden as an undercard. The bout ended in 49 seconds with Zbikowski knocking out his opponent Robert Bell, who outweighed Zbikowski by 23 pounds.

Of course, Zbikowski's boxing was put on hault because he played for the Notre Dame football team his senior year and months later was drafted by the Ravens. Three years later, he finds himself caught in the middle of turmoil between NFL team owners and the players union.

The owners and players could not agree upon a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) before the 11:59 on Friday, March 10 deadline so the previous CBA was decertified. This led to NFL owners locking  players out. This means players will not participate in offseason workouts, be available for trade or free agency. The NFL draft will still occur in April but the players selected won't be signed until the issue is resolved.
