NFL Combine... What will the Ravens staff be looking at?

The annual NFL combine will begin this Saturday Feburary 27. This event gives scouts the opportunity to examine which players they should consider drafting and which ones they should not. The combine will be spread out over the course of four days.

The first day, and least exciting day, will present all of the Offensive Linemen and Tightends invited to this exhibition of talent. Sunday will be the day Wide Recievers, Quarterbacks and Running backs run through the drills.

Will the Ravens' scouts be watching closely this day, I quite sure they will but they also know that they need help in other areas. The defensive line needs to get younger and better at rushing the passer. This is why the scouts will come back the next day to see the defensive linemen and linebackers trying to impress scouts so they find an NFL home this spring.

The final day is the day of defensive backs. Lardarius Webb is hurt and may or may not come back the same physical player he was last semester. Fabian Washington is coming off of IR this offseason and may need some time to recover. This is why the Ravens have to keep an eye open for any cornerback bargains. The major factor in drafting a safety is Ed Reed. If he retires, someone has to come in a compete with Zbikowski for the spot right away whether it be through free agency or draft. If he does not they still need to look for a person of the future if Zbikowski does not workout.

Ravens fans need to remember that the team is not in need of players in just one position. Every season that passes is another physically-intense season for the players on the roster. Players get old and have to be replaced. This is why the draft is so important. Look out for which wide recievers, defensive linemen and defensive backs perform well at the combine. The players that do well there usually get moved up higher on team draft boards then those who do not perform well. Also remember that the best performers at the combine do not always pan out to be the best players on the field (namely Vernon Gholston).

Undertaker catches on fire during his signature entrance

Undertaker gets hit with his own fireballs while proceeding to the ring. As you watch you will see how he reacts. The word is going around that he was extremely perturbed at the pyro crew for the screw-up (and he should have been).

Ludacris - My Chick Bad Ft. Nicki Minaj

The next video from Ludacris' upcoming Battle of the Sexes album. The song is not as catchy as "How low" but it has a better video. Look at Nicki Minaj in this video. She looks fiesty with those claws on!

Ravens pull the trigger on Stallworth

The Ravens are taking a step out on the tight rope by signing Dante Stallworth to a one year deal. The Baltimore sports world has been buzzing about how much the Ravens need a wide reciever. This signing shows that the Ravens organization recognizes that just as much as the fans do.

Stallworth was a 2002 first round draft pick by the Saints. He was a part of the potent 2007 Patriots offense. One major reason he is not considered a major addition right now is because his production has been inconsistent over the course of his career. In his best season, Stallworth caught 71 balls for 945 yards in 2005 but in the 2008 regular season he only had 17 catches for 170 yards.

Oh but there is more. Let us not forget that he was suspended from the Nfl for the entire 2009 season and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years of house arrest and 1000 hours of community service.

This is good move for the Ravens only if Stallworth works hard to play his best and knock off some of the rust he will come to training camp with. If he comes to Baltimore with all the baggage of his past, he will be weighed down way too much to be an asset.

Is Usher Back?

I have been listening to quite a bit of Usher's new material lately and I must say some of it is pretty good. So why is he not building up Confessions-type momentum? Honestly I do not know the answer to that. I do know that Usher was on top of the music world for like 2 years because of that Confession album. Will this Raymond vs Raymond album do the same? No. But it will have plenty of people running to their local Best Buy and Target.

I was watching the slam dunk contest last weekend and when a commercial break came up guess who I saw. That's right Usher was dancing to and singing what seemed to be the theme song for the annual basketball festival called All Star Weekend. It seems like his label is getting him exposure and he has a spark but he just is not catching fire. The next single for his album is Daddy's Home featuring Plies. The song is good but the video is nothing special. We know that's how Usher really gets the fans' attention is through is various dancing videos (hence "Yeah"). Will the radio spin it to death, we'll see.

If Usher does not return to his R&B throne, someone new will take it because Chris Brown slapped his way off of that place. I am an Usher fan I wish the best for him but he and everyone else knows that if he comes out with another album it must be better than Here I Stand.

Various Artists- We are the World (25 for Haiti) Video

Classic.

We need recievers... We know!!

In the Ravens lost to the Colts in the divisional round, the two leading receivers for the Ravens were Derrick Mason and Ray Rice. Derrick Mason had 4 catches for 66 yards and Ray Rice had 9 catches for 60 yards. Not one 100 yard receiver in the bunch.

After the game these stats made it seem like they were just outplayed but have the players on the roster put up good numbers. We saw it in the beginning of last season.

Things are changing now. Derrick Mason and Kelley Washington will a be unrestricted free agents, Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams will be restricted free agents. Derrick Mason could very well retire for real this time. Oh and did I mention this is all coming to a head THIS OFFSEASON.

This means that this offseason the Ravens cannot ignore the receiver position like they did last year. In the 2009 draft, they did not draft any receivers. They got Kelley Washington through the free agency but that was the only addition they made. Derrick Mason retired then unretired and then they signed some rookie free agents like Eron Riley in order to find some hidden talent. Other that the aforementioned, they did not bring in anyone else to give Joe Flacco the support he needs. Thank God for Ray Rice otherwise Flacco wouldn't have had anyone to throw to.

Look for the Ravens' scouts to search far and wide for talent in the draft and free agency. Also keep in mind that Justin Harper is still on the roster and could develop into something if he washes the butter off of his fingertips.

Mcmahon murders another Pay Per View

Vince Mcmahon has released a statement saying that the Survivor Series brand will no longer be used. The pay per view that began in 1987 has been a wrestling Thanksgiving tradition for over 20 years.

Basically Mcmahon said that the concept of Survivor Series is obsolete and had more of an impact on the business in the past. This made me ask, has Survivor Series outlived its time? The answer I got after pondering was a hesitant said yes.

In the past when WWE was first taking off Survivor Series meant something more. Today we have more jaw dropping, elaborate events like the upcoming Elimination Chamber (formerly No Way Out) PPV.

The elimination tag team driven PPV is gone but we will have to stay tuned to WWE at least until November so we can see what new concept the replacement PPV will have.

The new Super Bowl champions are...

the New Orleans Saints.

Sunday night we witnessed another Super Bowl upset. The 5 point underdog Saints outscored the Colts offense on the biggest stage of them all. It looked like the Saints defense who led the league in defensive touchdowns in this past regular season, did what every defense has been trying to do all year long. Take the ball away from Peyton. They did not sack him but that was not the most important task for the Saints to focus on.

Statistically Manning did not do that bad, he finished the day with 333 passing yards, completed 31 of his 45 pass attempts and threw one touchdown and one interception. His offensive teammates were not doing to bad themselves if you ignore some of the dropped passes(which I will right now). The running game was utilizing their inside run game very well.

Regardless of how good the numbers and averages were, they did not win. Their defense could not contain the Saints offense which was on fire thanks to Drew Brees, the Super Bowl 44 MVP. Brees and co. actually had 100 less offensive yards than the Colts did. All of this does not matter because the Saints went into the locker at halftime with their momentum building up so when they came out in the second half, they did what they have been able to do all year, score points. The kicker Garrett Hartley was 3 for 3 on the day connected with all of his kicks.
Drew Brees threw two touchdowns and Tracy Porter, second year corner back, returned an interception for a touchdown. All of these scoring opportunities put the Lombardi trophy into the hands of the New Orleans Saints for the first time ever.

Congratulations to the Saints but as a Ravens fan I just have to roll my eyes and look toward the NFL draft coming in a few months. I honestly did not have a team I really wanted to win so this game was a little irrelavant to me.

Grammy night hangover

After watching what seemed to be a pretty good award show last night, I just want to point out some of the things that either impressed me or annoyed me.

• Does Lady Gaga have to die every time she performs at an award show? Don’t get me wrong her performance with Elton John was pretty good.

• BeyoncĂ© performed very well once again. She probably had the best performance night.

• A close second was the eclectic rendition of Blame it by Jamie Foxx, T-Pain, Doug E. Fresh and Slash. It was a little much but it all came together in the end. I just want to know where he got that big dancing woman from. I think she was in the video too.

• Grammys you guys were on my “nice job” list until you screwed up what could have been a great performance by Lil Wayne, Eminem and Drake. Every time the rappers would get ready to say a curse word they would completely censor like two lines of the song. It made listening to the performance dreadful. They definitely need to adjust that before they broadcast another Grammy award show next year.

•We know who‘s pictures Justin Beiber was looking at before he got on stage.

The Grammys was better than I thought it would be. If you read this and noticed that I did not mention everything about the show, you are exactly right. If I did not mention it, it was probably NOT important.
